Women's Care Launches Menopause Center of Oregon

Women’s Care has launched a new resource for personalized support related to menopausal health. The Menopause Center of Oregon is a consultation service staffed by Paula Jewett, MD, and Doug Austin, MD. Both are board certified obstetricians and gynecologists. Dr. Jewett has a special interest in menopause and women’s fitness; Dr. Austin is a reproductive endocrinologist.

“The Menopause Center of Oregon serves as a resource for women who are either having difficulty with menopausal transitions or with traditional therapies, and women who want to look more deeply into their options and alternatives for menopausal health,” explains Dr. Jewett. She emphasizes that the Menopause Center of Oregon isn’t intended to replace regular obstetric or gynecologic care.

Before her first appointment, a Menopause Center of Oregon patient will be sent extensive questionnaires about her physical and mental health, including health history, risk factors, and lifestyle. “The questionnaires help us take a comprehensive look at the patient, and will provide the information we need to help her set goals and plan for menopause,” Dr. Jewett says. “The Menopause Center is more than just a place for patients to make a decision about hormone replacement,” she adds. “We’re also a resource to help women re-evaluate their health goals and assess where they’re at and where they’d like to be.” She notes that the Menopause Center’s multidisciplinary approach takes into consideration such factors as general health, diet, fitness, depression, sexuality and stress management, as well as relief of menopausal symptoms.

“At the Menopause Center of Oregon, we understand that knowledge is power, and that women who are better educated about menopause have an easier time managing the changes it brings,” says Dr. Jewett.
