Tips for Exercise Success

  • Check with your physician before embarking on an exercise program if you’ve been inactive for a long time, are at risk of heart disease or another chronic health problem, or if you’re overweight.

  • Choose activities you enjoy. Exercise won’t become routine or boring if you have several to choose from.

  • Establish a convenient place and time to exercise.

  • Listen to music to stay entertained.

  • Develop an exercise support network of friends or family and let them know how they can help. Do you want reminders to exercise? Someone to ask for progress reports? Exercise buddies?

  • Exercise with others. It can be a great way to socialize.

  • Begin with low to moderate level activities and gradually increase the length and intensity.

  • Keep an exercise diary. Reward yourself for milestones. Success is the greatest motivator!
