FAQ
Here you will find frequently asked questions on gynecology
I've missed a birth control pill. What do I do now? Take it as soon as you notice the error then continue the rest of the pack as usual.
I missed a pill earlier this month, now I'm having my period and I still have a week of pills left. What do I do now? Continue your pills on schedule. You will continue light bleeding until you begin your next pack.
I just started birth control pills and I've gained weight and feel bloated. What should I do? If you can, continue the pills for a few more cycles. This is a side effect that often disappears in 4-6 cycles.
I didn't have a period this month and I haven't missed any pills. Is this normal? This is not terribly unusual. If you are worried, have a pregnancy test done. If you don't have a period at the end of your next pill pack and your pregnancy test is negative, talk to the doctor about changing pills.
I have an itchy vaginal discharge. Should I be seen? If you've never had a vaginal yeast infection, yes you should be examined. If this feels like previous yeast infections, it is okay to treat yourself with over-the-counter yeast medication. If all symptoms don't disappear in 7-10 days you need to be seen.
I have a urinary tract infection. Would you just call something in for me? It is important to have a urinalysis done before antibiotics are prescribed. This helps prevent misuse and overuse of antibiotics.
I had a urinary tract infection last month and it's back. Could you call me in a refill on the antibiotics? After this length of time, it is not the same infection but rather a re-infection. You now need another urinalysis and a culture to look more closely at the specific bacteria of infection. Frequent UTIs need to be evaluated by your doctor.
I am 47 and have missed a period. Is this menopause? Maybe and maybe not. If you are sexually active you need a pregnancy test. If you are not pregnant and you miss a second period, you need testing for menopause.
I've been menopausal for several years and am having a period. Is this cause for concern? It is probably ok but needs to be evaluated by your gynecologist.
