Chris Skieens, CNM

Certified Nurse Midwife

Midwifery care is about meeting women where they are, helping women reach optimal health through education, collaboration and support.

Chris Skieens, CNM, attended Frontier Nursing University graduating with her master’s degree in Nurse-Midwifery in April 2018. Prior to entering midwifery, Chris was a labor and delivery registered nurse for 13yrs. She views pregnancy and birth as a normal part of life experience. Her focus is to help empower women and their families by providing low intervention hospital birth with care options, informed choice, self-determination and shared decisions making, with respect, and in a safe space.

Chris also provides well-woman care, contraception, preconception, prenatal, birth and postpartum care, and she is passionate about serving the LGBT community in a comfortable space to meet their individual needs.

Chris has enjoyed working with the hospital to build and promote their Low Intervention Pathway and Early Discharge Program which aligns with the midwife model of care. She is also excited that she has been able to help bring nitrous oxide as another option for pain control.

When not working, she enjoys spending time with her husband, their 23-year-old son and two dogs. During her downtime, she enjoys creating art, live music, camping, hiking and fishing and is also hoping to use her bike more here in Eugene.
