Katria Mertz, MD

Practices at Eugene: Chase Gardens

Dr. Katria Mertz began her studies at American University in Washington, D.C., where she pursued her undergraduate degree while engaging in activism and community work. She went on to complete her BSN and MSN in women’s health and midwifery at the University of Miami, where her mother was a medical school professor. She then earned her medical degree at the University of Miami School of Medicine and completed her residency at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, gaining experience in both rural and urban health care settings.

Drawn to women’s health from an early age, Dr. Mertz was inspired by the opportunity to make exams less intimidating, answer questions with compassion, and normalize experiences all women share. She values supporting patients through challenges and milestones and appreciates the opportunity to provide surgical care when needed.

Born and raised in Miami, Dr. Mertz also spent time in Pittsburgh before returning to Florida. After residency, she relocated to Oregon, encouraged by family connections and excited by the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest. She has been providing care in Eugene full time for 17 years.

Outside of work, Dr. Mertz enjoys an active family life with her husband and two daughters. She is an enthusiastic ultimate frisbee fan, often traveling to her daughter’s tournaments, and also enjoys running and skiing. At home, she enjoys quiet moments in the backyard and time spent with their dogs, cats, chickens, and koi fish.
